Movie Reviews with halochief996: Prometheus

Man oh man. My summer vacation I think is pretty much over. I just started summer school. I'm taking physics at this college that's really close to my house. Basically learning one semester's worth of class in 5 weeks. Challenge accepted.

Other than that E3, the big Video game electronics expo was this week, and I have been keeping up with all the latest video game news.  Anyway keep on reading to see my opinions about E3.   This is going to be one long blog post, so be warned there will be a lot of reading.

Prometheus

One of my favorite sci-fi movies was created by a well known director named Ridley Scott. It was called Alien. And it was amazing. After that Aliens. And that too is my favorite sci-fi movie. Colonial marines are badass. Yes I can't wait for Aliens Colonial Marines to come out for Xbox 360 and Wii U. Yes I'm getting that game for 2 systems (maybe 3, steam sale baby). So when I saw the trailer for Prometheus, I was like hell yeah, the Alien movie prequel. But as more info was given about the movie, I was almost doubting the film mainly because the producer/director Ridley Scott was saying that this film would have its own story and only little connection to the alien franchise. Anyway I was impressed.
Plot: Let me give it to you straight. This is kind of a prequel to Alien. But that's not really important. Basically on Earth some symbols were found, and it led some curious scientists to a planet called LV-223. On that planet, these scientists hope to find the people that created humanity aka the Engineers. They hope to understand how they were created, what their purpose is, and the meaning of life. However things are not as they seem. The story is interesting, intense, and keeps you interested. I mean for a prequel to an awesome movie franchise, this movie delivers. Its well written and easy to follow if you have not watched the other alien movies. However if you are like me, and have watched the first alien movie, then you may notice some inconsistencies with this film and Alien. For example the famous planet from Alien 1 and 2 is called LV 426. In this film its called LV-223. Ridley Scott has said that in this film he was planning on pursuing the alien race that was found dead in the first alien movie. However If you have seen the first alien film, this movie will make you question so many things. I don't to ruin anything, but I will tell you that this film is both consistent and inconsistent with the alien franchise. There are scenes that are going to just leave you with more questions than answers.
Genre: This is a horror, suspense/thriller film. As far as horror goes, this film is not scary, but there is some suspense, and the atmosphere of the film makes you on the edge. Good recommendation watch this film in the dark. The special effects, set pieces are really beautifully created. I mean the costumes, equipment, and creatures are really good looking. The acting is also very impressive. Its dramatic, and seems very real. And there are plenty of things in this film that are references to the Alien films. As I said before, the movie leaves you with a lot of questions. And I think the producer and director of this film wanted this film to be that way. I guess in a way the movie makes the audience think and create their own theories about the engineers, life, god, creation, and the evolution of the alien.
Overall: Its a good film with a lot of interesting ideas. A good story with great characters and acting along with great special effects. The movie does make you think a lot, and for some people that have watched Ridley Scott's Alien film, there will be a lot inconsistent scenes and landmarks. Either way this movie does leave a lot of questions unanswered, and in a way it opens up for a sequel that may or may not be related to the Alien franchise.

My opinion on E3

OK first off before you read this rant, this is my opinion, so please respect that. If you are a Sony fanboy or any other type of fanboy I suggest you skip this and just go see the hot chick that I have for this week's blog. Also I would like to note that I have a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, Gaming desktop, Gaming Laptop, 3DS, and PSVita. Plus a lot of games, some exclusive to their respected consoles. I like them all. So please don't call me a fanboy or ignorant.
So E3 has come. And I'm always excited by E3, mainly because I want to see new games, and I want to see what developers, and big publisher companies have in store for the future, including new tech and hardware, and other innovative ways to play video games. What I don't like is the fanboyism that comes with E3. I mean I don't know about you, but I just want to see what each company has to offer, good, bad, or just plain dumb. I don't care, I just want to see it. I don't want to hear trollololololol statements about how stupid or not hardcore that game or device is. To be honest the troll statements, fanboyism, and critical statements made by smartass journalists who probably are being bribed or payed out, all detract from my E3 experience. Which is why I never pay attention to the comments, and I prefer to watch everything on spike TV because then I don't get those annoying twitter/facebook/trololololololloloolol comments. So I will give my opinion on each press conference including what I expected, what I got, highlights, and just for kicks a grade (I'm very nice with grades by the way). But to be honest each press conference had good and bad stuff to show. Nobody was perfect this E3. Even GT with its very bad broadcasting technology.

Microsoft Press Conference

What I expected:
  • Halo 4
  • Call of Duty Black Ops 2
  • Something new like a new game or new technology
So Microsoft had its press conference first. And it was a good press conference. First they open up with a demo of Halo 4. As you can tell I'm a huge halo fan. Don't have Halo Wars sadly. Other than that, a trailer for a new Gears of War game was shown. A new Forza Motorsport. A new Dance Central (best part game to play with chicks especially hot one). Also a demo of Splinter Cell Blacklist using Kinect was shown. That blew me away. Along with that demos of Resident Evil 6, Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty lit up the show. Along with some new interesting Kinect games announced, and a new game from the creators of Toy Soldiers. The Xbox Smartglass was also shown. And its some interesting technology. However here is the problem with that. I don't have a windows phone. Heck I'm too cheep to get one. Also the only tablet I have is an Ipad. And I don't think Microsoft is going to put their Xbox Smartglass technology on an Apple product. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. You can prove to me otherwise. So basically Xbox smartglass may not be useful to me. Also when they announced that kinect would have more languages, well I didn't see Chinese. I mean I'm part Taiwanese and most of my family speaks Chinese. So it would've been nice to see them support Chinese. But maybe they will in the future. Other than that Microsoft had a good press conference with plenty of demos, announcements, and a new piece of technology that impressed me. In fact my mom was actually watching this press conference. She never fell asleep. She especially loved Resident Evil 6.

Sony Press Conference

What I expected
  • More PSVita games
  • More new Playstation Exclusives
  • The Last of Us, The Last Gaurdian
Sony always seems to impress me. I mean last year they got me pumped for the PSVita. Years before they got me excited for Killzone, Uncharted, and many other Playstation exclusives. This year though I feel like I was let down. I mean we got a first look at a game from the creators of Heavy Rain called Beyond. It looked really real and impressive. And having Ellen Page in the game will make it even more cooler. Then we got to see Playstation Battle Royale which is coming to the PSVita. Also we got some footage of Assassin's Creed 3, and another Assassin's Creed game exclusively for the PSVita. Plus Far Cry 3. And then at the end, a demo of God of War Ascension and The Last of Us. Sony's playstation 3 has been pretty much built on the ideal that its a console for the hardcore gamers. And their thousands of fanboys worship it as if it was god's gift to gamers. Anyway according VGcharts, Sony Playstation sales are still behind Xbox 360, and Wii sales. So I guess in a way this was a good time for Sony to show the world that it can be a console for casual players. And they showed that with their new game and device called Wonderbook. Now let me be the first to tell you, that is pretty cool. Has a lot of bugs and glitches but that can always be fixed and worked out. I probably would buy that. I have nieces and nephews that would enjoy that. But that took up a lot of time in their press conference. On top of that, they had a long speech about Playstation mobile. Where we the gamers can play everywhere and never stop playing. Look I don't have that much money, and I don't want to buy some 3G internet plan from my cell phone company just to play on my PSVita, and I don't need a fancy Sony phone. In a way after listening to this speech, this is sony's answer to microsoft's smartglass. God I love this great company rivalry. Anyway I'm going to be honest my mom fell asleep during this press conference. And no offense I was bored too. I wanted more demos, more games. Where were my PSVita games? I mean Playstation Battle Royale...Psssh...I have Super Smash Bros. Assassin's Creed Liberation I mean looks good and I may get it. But I'm getting Assassin's Creed 3 for Xbox 360, and I don't care about bonuses. Lastly the God of War demo , well some of the creatures looked cool, but I don't know I felt like I was watching a player just mashing buttons on enemies that seemed to be just taking it like a sponge. The only impressive things in my opinion from Sony's press conference were Beyond, the Last of Us, and Wonderbook. Playstation Battle Royale looked like to me a Super Smash Brothers clone, the footage of Assassin's Creed 3, Liberation, and Far Cry 3 didn't really impress since I saw the Ubisoft press conference. Lastly the biggest disappointment from Sony's Press conference for me was that they left the PSVita to die like the PSP before it. There were not enough games announced. I mean Nintendo when they released the 3DS they announced many games. Whereas the PSVita it looks like Sony doesn't care at all. Tell me I'm wrong. I mean I bought a PSVita day one. 250 bucks man. Where are my games? I still will support sony, but they need to get their stuff together. Cause I am sick and tired of their BS from cancelled to delayed exclusives (ahem Last Guardian), to their obnoxious fanboys. You know I hate Sony sometimes because of the way they run things; the way they always seem to make things that look really similar to Nintendo products; and because of their douchebag fanboy players on the Internet and PSN. I don't know whats worse screaming kids on Xbox Live or douchebag elitists thinking they are better than you because they own a system that has better technology than the other systems. Man I hate Sony fanboys. They are just so blind to their own system and company. Heck no wonder the Sony of American CEO opened up in his speech with a grateful speech to the fans. And no wonder on some forums I just see so many votes for Sony, and like 1 or 2 votes for Microsoft. I mean do they really hate microsoft that bad, can they not accept the fact that Sony's press conference failed to deliver, or are they all just trolls with no lives. I mean saying Sony saved E3 is like the biggest Troll statement I've ever heard.

Nintendo Press Conference

What I expected
  • Nintendo Wii U info
  • Wii U games
  • 3DS games
Nintendo to me is a great company. They always seem to make great quality games, and very revolutionary ways of playing games. When the Wii was first shown I was impressed, that I bought one day one. Then the 3DS, I bought that like week 3. Now the Wii U, I'm probably going to buy that day one. What I liked about Nintendo's press conference this year, was they didn't really spend too much time on the Wii U specifications, instead they showed off many games, 23 to be exact (that's what they said). I got enough info about the Wii U form this press conference, however there are still some questions unanswered. For example do I need to buy a new Wii in order for this new system to work because I looked at the graphics power for some of the games that they announced for the new system including Batman Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, and Aliens Colonial Marines, I mean changing the graphics power on a system is not as simple as downloading an update I think. Whatever I believed they did have a lot to talk about which is why they had a pre E3 show, and plus during the press conference urged us to watch the many different videos they were going to have posted online. I probably should have watched that, but I was too busy getting ready for summer school and studying. Anyway the plethora of games that they announced were spectacular from new Mario games to a new Pinkman and at the end Nintendoland. I mean I was impressed. It reminded me of my very young years when I was very little and my first video game console was nintendo 64. I kind of cried at the end. Although I would've like Nintendo to probably have given me more info about the Wii U instead of actually trying to get me to watch there small press conferences they have on other days. I mean one thing for certain, Nintendo is serious about their new console. And they are trying their best to get as many games as they can for it. They are very serious about pleasing the both the casual gaming market and the hardcore. Heck my mom wants to buy a Nintendo Wii U to get that exercising game. Also for me I'm buying Aliens Colonial Marines on Wii U and the 360 and possibly the PC. Nintendo impressed me this year. Although it would've been nice if they didn't have too many small press conferences after their big one.

EA Press Conference

What I expected
  • Battlefield 3 expasions
  • Crysis 3
  • Medal of Honor Warfighter
  • Resolution to Mass Effect 3 ending
  • New games
I don't know between EA and Activision, they both seem to be the same. Always about the money. I mean EA and Crytek already screwed me over when they released Crysis 2 maximum edition and decided they would not make the DLC available to anybody who already owned Crysis 2 day one. But then again EA has some great games that I really want to play. I was surprised they were making a sequel to Dead Space. I thought it was over in 2, but I guess there are more necromorphs to kill in Dead Space 3. And now with a friend. Sim City also looked really interesting. Its nice to see they are bringing the franchise back. The new EA sports games including their big announcement of UFC games, didn't really impress me mainly because I don't play sports games. But what did impress me was the new Medal of Honor gameplay and multiplayer trailer; the beautiful looking Crysis 3 gameplay; a new Need for Speed game; and finally Battlefield Premium. Yes as of June 4, I am a Battlefield 3 premium member. Its a good deal, better than Call of Duty Elite. I'm surprised nothing was mentioned about Mass Effect 3. After all, there was a huge debate, and fight about the ending, and supposedly Bioware was working on something to remedy that situation. Oh well Star Wars the Old Republic looked cool. Anyway EA had an average press conference, they showed off some great games, and hopefully in the future they will be great games. We can hope that EA has more, after they acquired the lead designers for the famous Call of Duty series.

Ubisoft Press Conference

What I expected
  • Assassin's Creed 3
  • Rainbow Six Patriots
  • More Tom Clancy games
  • Far Cry 3
  • New Games
Ubisoft has been well known to me because they made my favorite military shooter games. I'm already liking Ghost Recon Future Soldier, and I remember reading about a new Rainbow Six game in Gameinformer magazine. However to my dismay, Rainbow Six Patriots was MIA. Instead a new Splinter Cell game was announced. Which is not bad, I like Splinter Cell. I saw the demo at Microsoft and it was impressive, but to be honest looks like an action game instead of stealth. But the kinect features are a nice bonus. The new Rayman game on the Wii U was very impressive. It showed that Ubisoft is really backing up Nintendo's new console, and they are ready to put games onto the at system including a zombie shooter. Speaking of shooters, Far Cry 3 was impressive (had tits). Shootmania was pretty cool. The biggest highlight of the show though for me was the trailer and gameplay of Assassin's Creed 3. I mean talk about badass. Speaking of open world games, WATCH DOGS. OMG, that looks freaking awesome!!!!!!!!! Lastly the two hosts for the press conference this year were pretty funny. Cheesy but funny. Better than last year. I will say though Ubisoft not only had its own press conference but it also took part in everybody else's press conference except for EA. And to me that was OK, since most of the impressive stuff was shown during their press conference. Ubisoft had quite a good show this year. From Wii U games, a new Splinter Cell, Far Cry and Assassin's Creed gameplay, and a new impressive IP Watch Dogs. The only thing missing is Rainbow Six Patriots.
Grade: A

So to wrap things up here are all the grades. And as I said before this is just my opinion. Tell me what you think about E3 2012. Because as far as I can tell I was impressed. Can't wait to play the games when they come out.

Mircrosoft: A-
