Movie Reviews with halochief996: The Watch

Ah the 2012 Olympics have started.  And I am super excited and happy.   The opening ceremony was great (not as great as last year's no offense).  The USA team is going at it strong.  Go USA!!!!!!!!  Anyway lets move on.

The Watch 

OK Ben Stiller is pretty funny, or I think he used to be.  My favorite movies with him are Zoolander, Meet the Parents/Fockers, and Dodgeball.  Lately though I don't think he has had any good movies, but he has a chance to come back.  Anyway his new movie The Watch, looked pretty good in the trailer.  I mean you got Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Ben Stiller.  What could go wrong.  I'm just going to say all the scenes from the trailer were the good parts, and everything else you shouldn't watch.

Plot: Ben Stiller is Evan, the big store manager of Costco, and the founder of some crazy clubs in this small town of Glenview, Ohio.  One day his security guard is killed viciously.  So he decides to form the neighborhood watch to catch the murderer and killer.  Together with the help of his 3 friends (Vaughn, Hill, and Ayoade), they stumble upon an alien invasion.  And now its up to them to stop it, and save the world from the vicious aliens.   The plot sounds good, but its just poorly executed.  Its not well written, and its not really well performed.  In fact by the middle of the film, I was kind of bored with the story.  The one good thing about the story is there are a couple of great surprises, twists, and cameos.

Genre: Its a comedy film, but its really not that funny.  I mean there are scenes, and jokes throughout the film that will make you chuckle, smile, and laugh a little.  But that is only for a few scenes.  And the stuff that they make fun of, from Costco, dumb policeman, and aliens, barely make you laugh.  Richard Ayoade and Jonah Hill seem to be the only ones who put some effort acting in this film.  Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn could have been better.  As for the special effects and aliens, they are average at best.

Overall: I don't know what they were thinking when they were making this film.  But lets just say after watching the film, I really thought it was a stupid movie, and pretty much a good waste of 2 hours.  Acting isn't that great, and the story is poorly executed.  Save yourself the money and the time.  If you really want to watch it, go pirate it.

Hi, so I know its been a while since my last blog.  But lets just say my favorite website, Gametrailers, where most of my blog posts are, decided to undergo a makeover.  So I've been trying to make sure I have all my blog posts, which I should have.  Also I've been busy with school, and life.  So to those of you that follow my blog closely, I'm very sorry for this long delay.  So here is the deal.  I am going to post the blog post that I posted on GT, but not on Wordpress.   Also I will be posting another blog post about some movies that I saw but just didn't write reviews about just yet.  If all else fails, just expect a big review on the biggest movie coming out on 7/20.  You know what it is.  So without further to do, here is a blog post from I guess 3 weeks ago.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

You know there a movie with strange titles and also strange stories (like Cowboys and Aliens). When I first hear of this movie, I was like whoa Abraham Lincoln is a Vampire Hunter. Plus the guy who made Wanted, which is one of my favorite films made this one. Of coarse we all know that Abraham Lincoln was not a Vampire hunter, but hey that makes for a good story right?

Plot: As the title says, the famous president that led the USA through the Civil War, and united America, had a secret life. He was a vampire hunter. When he was young his mother was killed by a vampire. When he grew up, he sought revenge. However while seeking for revenge he meets a man named Henry (Dominic Cooper). And this man teaches him how to kill vampires. And so Abe Lincoln goes on a quest to kill every single vampire in America. However he soon has a life. He marries a beautiful girl named Mary (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), has a kid, and becomes president. However the vampire become impatient with him, and try to destroy him and claim the United States for themselves (by joining the Confederacy and then killing everybody afterwards). Can he protect his family, save the United States, and win the Civil War? A crazy story with some historical backdrops. Really creative I have to say.

Genre: Its an action flick with a few cheap scares that may make you jump but not scream in horror. Like Wanted you have a lot of slow mo fight scenes and special effects. This movie is presented really well. I watched it in 3D and it looked really cool. However there was one fight scene I was disappointed with. There was too much smoke and things were going a little too fast to the point it was cool but confusing. The acting was pretty sharp. Everybody gave a descent performance. I didn't think Mary Elizabeth Winstead could do a good job like this. I mean she can do almost any role (from Badass chick from Die Hard 4 or Scott Pilgrim to a western lady). The movie was entertaining.

Overall: A strange movie with a creative story that was entertaining. I enjoyed the movie. Its nice to see something different and weird once in a while. However it wasn't worth a 3D movie ticket. If I were you, I would watch this in 2D and at a matinee time. Or just rent it on DVD. Its one of those you can enjoy if you want to see something crazy different in a while.

Dam. That girl is cute. And she is from my family's country. Taiwan definitely does have some beautiful girls. I can support that because I've been there many times. Anyway this girl is in a TV show called Wo Yao Bian Cheng Ying Shi Zi which means I Want To Become A Hard Persimmon / Wanna Be A Tough Guy. I think I may just watch this show just to stare at that girl. That's usually what I do when I watch Asian dramas. Don't even pay attention to the story just stare at the beautiful girls. Anyway Angel Hong Shi Han, you are cute.

Now if you guys wondering how I get my information about Asian Stars. Well some of it comes from watching Asian Dramas recommended by my family and friends, and trying to figure out who are the actresses. Of coarse sometimes pictures are hard to come by mainly because maybe they are not famous enough or there are so many Asian stars with the same name that its hard to figure out who is who in the picture (yes all Asians sometimes do look alike, not going to lie). Man its been hell after I got back from Spring break. So much homework and stuff to do for school. Very stressful. Man but that's what college is about right?

Yeah anyway well as for as my gaming goes. I've been getting back into Shogun 2 Total War with their new Expansion Fall of the Samurai.

Its addicting, I've already put in a lot of hours. Hopefully I will find Tom Cruise somewhere in this game.

Anyway, also got Resident Evil Operation Racoon City.

Yeah let's just say Resident Evil 6 will be better than this.

Lets get to the big review shall we.

The Hunger Games

Around my school, around my city, on the TV, and even on my computer, this movie has been advertised multiple times. I mean many people have been telling me OMG it looks so awesome. Going to be as good as the book. I mean this movie was hyped up. It looked interesting and also Taylor Swift contributed to the soundtrack with her song Safe and Sound and Eyes Open. I like Taylor Swift.

Plot: The story is based off the novel by Suzanne Collins. I'll be honest,I've never read the book, so I have no idea if the story follows true to the book. Here's the story based off just what I've seen in the movie. Once upon a time there was a country like the United States. Washington D.C. is called the Capitol which is where the main seat of power resides. Also instead of 50 states there are 12 districts. And the rule of government in a way is almost like a mix between republic and dictatorship. Anyway there was a civil war, where some of the districts rebelled, and the capitol and the supporting districts had to subdue them. In the end, the capitol won. Now to prevent another civil war from happening, the capitol has created a contest called The Hunger Games. Basically each of the 12 districts has to pay tribute, by sending 2 people (one male, one female) to the Capitol where they will compete in a contest of survival. Basically 24 kids going at each other with knives, swords, bows, and nature. All in a natural wilderness arena. Bloody, cruel, and intense. The people usually sent in are teens and young adults. This contest is ment to keep the other districts in line and make them understand that the Capitol is in charge and will provide. In district 12, one girl Katniss Everdeen volunteers to compete in The Hunger Games, after her sister is chosen to compete. Also the guy chosen is Peeta Mellark. They go to the Capitol where they are treated like royalty and train for the upcoming game. Will they survive or will they die? I have not read the book, but its an interesting story. I liked it, and it kept me interested all the way.

Genre: Action, adventure, drama, some sci-fi, and some romance. All I have to say its executed well. The action is intense and keeps you hooked. I mean we are talking about teens and young adults fighting for survival and only one of them is can survive. Survival of the fittest. The design of the world is also really remarkable. Each district looks likes a very old run down village or town. I mean food is not really plentiful and each district has their own unique resource that they must provide for the capitol and the other districts. So District 12 is a coal mine town so you'll see carts full of coal, houses made of wood with black smudges, and the people in coal mine gear. Then you see the capitol which is like this futuristic, clean, modern city with interesting clothes. Kind of makes it hard to determine who is a guy and who is a girl with all the elaborate make up and clothes. Presents the idea of a very superficial society. Kudos to the costume designers, visual artists, and setting creators. The only thing that bugs me is sometimes the camera zooms in really close on characters and gets a little shakey when its that zoomed in. But I get used to it. Acting is also superb, dramatic and not really fake.

Overall: I was really annoyed at seeing all the commercials and hearing people talk about this film. I mean heck I know some people who spent their whole spring break reading the book. You know what after watching this film. I kind of want to read the book. I'm also thinking to myself maybe I should've read the book first before watching this film. Oh well it was still a good movie. I'm very impressed.

Whats up Blogger. Sorry I've been pretty busy with some things. But here is another blog.

This Means War

Reese Witherspoon. She's hot. And this movie seemed like a good movie to watch and have a good laugh with. Its funny and has some good moments, but nothing extraordinary.

Plot: FDR Foster (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are both badass CIA operatives that always like to do things with a bang. And they are best friends. However they fall for the same girl, Lauren (Reese Witherspoon). Its spy vs. spy. FDR and Tuck get into a big conflict. They use their high tech spy equipment and their charming personalities to try to win Lauren. Who will win the girl? The story is interesting, not really something new or different. On top of that there is a small side story where these 2 CIA friends are being hunted down by a German terrorist, and they have to live (and hopefully don't lose the girl to him). But other than that the main plot of the story is just these 2 spies fighting each other for one girl. Sounds romantic.

Genre: Its an action/adventure, comedy, and romance film. The action is pretty good as you see the 2 spies kill bad guys, and fight each other. There is a good balance between the action and the romance. And you get to see both spies try to do some crazy things and create romantic dates for the girl. The comedy is pretty funny. The spies have a lot of funny jokes and smart ass things to say. Along with Reese Witherspoon and her really crazy girl friend. Its funny and entertaining to watch.

Overall: I enjoyed watching this film. I had a lot of good laughs and there were some really funny parts. A perfect date movie.
